MEET ELODIE THIERRY: FROM CARPENTRY TO THE NAUTICAL INDUSTRY

This month, we had the pleasure of interviewing Elodie Thierry. Her career knew a bold change. From working in a call center to becoming a skilled carpenter, Elodie’s story is both inspiring and empowering. Over the past two years at Iguana, she has embraced challenges, discovered the fascinating realm of amphibious boats, and thrived in an environment that values teamwork and innovation.

Read the following interview as we explore her path, her role, and her thoughts on working at Iguana.

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOURSELF

“I am a trained carpenter, but three years ago, I was still working as a call center hostess. Seeking a career change, I decided to move towards manual work. Therefore, I completed a seven-month carpentry training at AFPA (National Organization for Adult Professionalization Training) a little over two years ago.
After that, Benoît Beukels, the current production manager, contacted me via Indeed. He was looking for a carpenter to handle the fittings on boats after deck installation. Since I was not familiar with this area, I suggested visiting the site to better understand the job. It was a real challenge because fittings are a complex discipline, and I had no prior experience in the nautical industry. But I was intrigued, so I took the leap.
This month marks my two-year anniversary with the company, and I am thrilled with my choice. Working in a field I did not know before has been incredibly rewarding. Previously, I focused mainly on interior fittings: furniture, kitchens, and bathrooms. Who would have thought I would one day specialize in outfitting boats?”

WHAT ARE YOUR RESPONSABILITIES?

“In my role, I am primarily responsible for heads, certain interior fittings, and the fittings on boats. Regarding heads, the work involves several steps: designing panels made of Forex (a type of plastic material), laying floors, installing the head, building furniture, and assembling everything.

Then, the Forex panels are used to cover surfaces.”

“I take measurements, install them, and handle the finishing touches, such as lighting or the flush buttons. I also handle plumbing connections.

In addition to heads, I work on fittings after the deck installation and on the exterior details on the deck. Sometimes, I collaborate on group projects, like installing the RIB tubes, which require strong teamwork. I enjoy both working in a team and handling tasks independently, and I adapt well to any situation.”

It is amazing to build boats, but it is even better to try them out. Seeing our work in action is incredibly fulfilling. It also makes us realize the importance of what we do.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IGUANA YACHTS?

“Before joining Iguana, I had never heard of amphibious boats. It was through being contacted for a job that I discovered the brand and its products. I immediately found it fascinating.

Iguana boats stand out from the typical boats you see in ports. Here, everything is focused on leisure: the boats are new, elegant, and modern, very different from traditional commercial vessels.”

“Standing next to one, especially when it is on its tracks, you realize its impressive size. It is inspiring, and it gives me a sense of pride to contribute to their construction.

What motivated me to join Iguana was primarily curiosity. I was excited by the idea of learning something new and discovering a different industry.”

TEAMWORK AT THE HEART OF OUR WORK

“What I appreciate about Iguana is both the product and my job. The variety of tasks and the hands-on nature of the work make each day interesting and stimulating.
Teamwork and kindness are core values here. I have never hesitated to ask for help because the team is always ready to support each other. There is no judgment, just a shared drive to grow together. This mindset is also reflected in how we welcome newcomers: we share our knowledge with patience and kindness. It creates a truly enjoyable and motivating work environment.”
