MEET BRIGITTE BISSONNIER, OUR PRECIOUS AND ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTANT

Accounting and administration have more significant roles in a company than most people realize. This is why Brigitte Bissonnier, our accountant, has one of the most important roles in our company and has been with us for more than seven years now. We have had the pleasure of interviewing her about her career, responsibilities, objectives, and how Iguana has changed over the past seven years.

WHAT WAS YOUR PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND BEFORE IGUANA YACHTS?

“Originally, I was a sales assistant. But a few years after I started I had the opportunity to work as both a sales assistant and an accountant. When the company split, I was offered a chance to stay as a 100% accountant.

I have always loved accounting, even though I have an interest in business. I like the notion of numbers and analysis at the service of the operational side, which allows you to understand the life and functioning of the company.

I have been doing accounting for 40 years now and I have seen the accounting profession evolve thanks to technology, whether it is computers or data storage. I started with floppy disks where you could store only a small amount of data, whereas now everything is digitized. I think the amount of work I do now with these tools should have been two times.

Before arriving at Iguana, I worked as a multi-employer, which means that I worked for several different companies. In the beginning, I arrived at Iguana Yachts part-time, but the evolution of the company and the departure of the executive assistant meant that I took on more responsibilities.”

The Iguana is design, incredible and luxurious at the same time. A unique product.

WHAT ARE YOUR MISSIONS AT IGUANA YACHTS?

“I arrived at Iguana to assist in creating a balance sheet, and as time went on, I was given more responsibilities. I learned about Iguana through a former accountant I worked with. Although I have sailed when i was young and enjoy shipbuilding, prior to joining Iguana, I had never worked in boats industry. However, I realized that any company needs to manage its accounting, and Iguana provided me with the opportunity to explore various areas. I joined Iguana in January 2017 when it was a start-up with a small team. Over the years, the number of people in the teams doubled as we grew into a semi-industrial company while maintaining our artisanal aspect.

Initially, I was involved in managing suppliers and payments, as well as preparing payslips related to human resources. Later, I took on administrative tasks. I have gained a lot of experience and confidence as my tasks progressed, which is important for my current role to ensure that I do not mislead others. Although there is no typical day at Iguana, we always encounter new things. However, the beginning of each day usually involves processing emails, checking bank accounts, as well as cash flow. I handle my assignments weekly to be flexible and efficient, but there are special cases depending on the time of the month or year, such as salaries or the VAT return, where I have fixed dates for certain documents or tasks. Being an accountant requires great attention to detail, impartiality, and knowledge of legal regulations, especially in areas such as taxation.

Nevertheless, the experience of working at Iguana is rewarding and fulfilling, as we get to see the impact of our work firsthand.”

Even administrative staff members like myself feel a sense of purpose and meaning in our roles.

HOW HAS IGUANA YACHTS EVOLVED OVER THE LAST 7 YEARS?

“In 2017, Iguana experienced rapid growth with the arrival of Julien Poirier and the introduction of the Iguana X100. The model was an instant hit and has since become an iconic product for Iguana. This success led to an increase in production and hiring, as well as the creation of the after-sales service team. This department has seen significant growth and plays a crucial role in ensuring customer satisfaction as Iguana products are shipped worldwide.

The teams at Iguana are tightly knit, and everyone contributes to the company’s success. The atmosphere is positive and supportive, and there is a sense of pride in working on something unique and original. Even administrative staff members like myself feel a sense of purpose and meaning in our roles.”

One of the standout memories for me was my first experience with the Iguana Commuter. It was a unique and special experience, and it left a lasting impression on me. I have met many talented individuals at Iguana, including Florent, one of the creators of the Iguana. Each person has left their mark on the company, making Iguana a truly singular and remarkable company.
