Categories Non classéMEET CHARLES GILLIBERT, THE NEW DEPUTY GENERAL DIRECTOR FOR IGUANA PRO Post author By Clémence Thellier Post date 22 February 2023 Since September 2022, Charles Gillibert has joined the ranks of our Iguana Pro business unit. Passionate about boats and travel, he now manages the workboat division of Iguana Yachts. His rich experience in the defense sector and his network allow Iguana Pro to grow. LINKEDIN HOW DID YOU GET IN THE DEFENSE INDUSTRY? “After several years of study in England, I finished my last year in Spain. I started my career at Norcros, a company specialized in the trade of all-terrain vehicles for NGOs. I was in charge of Africa. This first experience led me to work for the Marck Group, which specializes in equipment for security forces and military boats, Sillinger. I evolved within the group; I was the general manager of a trading company that was part of the group, SOFEXI. As a boat lover, I invested a lot in this company. We realized that the commercial range was of interest to the yachting market. So we developed a range of products for yachting, based on the fundamentals of our commercial experience.15 years later, I left the Marck group and returned to school for an MBA at INSEAD. I worked as a freelancer in the development of shipyards. Then in 2017, I joined the innovative company Azur Drones for 4 years. It was an engineering office and we had to create a market to sell drones because there was no existing market for drones at the time. I’ve always followed this closely because Africa is an important market. It’s handy for logistics.” IGUANA PRO WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE IGUANA ADVENTURE?“The first time I saw an Iguana was at the Paris boat show in 2012. I spotted it because it was interesting for Africa. But at the time, I didn’t believe it. Technically, how was it possible to add tracks on a boat?We hired a former engineer from Azur Drones, who previously worked at Iguana Yachts. I was surprised to see that the company still existed. Every year I would send Iguana a message asking if they were coming to this or that boat show. I finally came to see the shipyard. I thought the product was very impressive and wanted to be part of the adventure. I have always wanted to support small and medium-sized businesses on an international scale. I like the marine environment, boating, innovation and I am a fan of the product! I told myself that this company was made for me. I put a lot of effort in my work. That’s also why I’m involved in the yachting business, which is very new to me.Why Iguana Pro? Because I am a pure product of Defense Security. I spent a large part of my career working for Defense. For me, yachting is not an obvious field. I’m just discovering it. I had never sold a boat in B to C. However, I quickly understood the codes. I learned that with the Marck Group. I go very far in customer relationships. I take care of the customer. I contacted people for Iguana that I hadn’t seen in 15 years. Selling a product when you are thousands of miles away is not easy to manage. It is important to establish a relationship of trust. I invest a lot of time in that.”HOW WAS YOUR FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH AN IGUANA?“I didn’t realize how amazing that would be. Operational simplicity. We spent some time at sea, then came back. There were no constraints. Usually, the boat ride back spoils your outing a bit. If you’re in port, you’re looking for a place, if it’s windy it can be a bit tricky, if you don’t feel confident, etc. But with the Iguana, it’s very simple. It multiplies the sensations and the marine experience. For me, it takes away all the constraints. I had understood it but now I feel it. I was far from really understanding. That’s why it’s important to have the customer try it. The experience of driving as a driver is incredible. You’re dry on your beach or in your parking lot, you quietly put your stuff in the boat, get in the water and go. It’s awesome. It saves a lot of time. It makes the sea much easier to get to. Less stress than a classic boat. The Iguana is a very good boat. You don’t get wet, you can navigate at night without any problem. It has very good behavior at sea, it is safe. It is a simple way to access the sea. That’s luxury. It is to be able to go out to sea on a whim, without waiting for the high tide. It simplifies life. It’s a real pleasure to put your boat out to sea.” JOIN THE TEAM!Are you interested in joining our team? Find out about the positions available or apply spontaneously and discover the Iguana world. Categories Non classéA DELICATE AND PRECISE TASK: PAINTING AN IGUANA. Post author By Clémence Thellier Post date 2 February 2023 One of the exciting moments of building an Iguana is choosing the color of your boat. This can range from single-color to metallic multi-color options. There is no limit to your imagination. This is an enjoyable and exciting part of your building process. David Aguado, our painting leader, tells us all the secrets of painting Iguanas. David AguadoDavid started his career painting vehicles before joining Iguana. He was a car painter for 33 years. He has worked for major automotive brands such as Mercedes, Renault, etc.But painting in the marine industry is different from the automotive industry. That is why David’s extensive experience in the industrial paint business is so valuable to us. To paint boats you have to be meticulous, organized, and have the know-how.At Iguana, the boat’s color depends on the client’s wishes. However, we occasionally have the chance to produce boats in different and exciting colors to fit individual clients’ superyacht or waterside properties. An Iguana Original full red An Iguana Sport grayTHE PAINTING PROCESSOnce the two parts of the hull are decked, the boat is sanded. Each piece is sanded with precision by the painters. The sanding allows the good impregnation of the paint on the hull. This is a very important step. A coat of primer is applied to the hull to create an adherent surface. Everything is sanded again before being taken to the paint booth. Once the boat is in the paint booth, it is first dusted before two applications of base paint are applied. There is a 30-minute delay between each coat. Once the final coats are applied and dried, the boat is moved to finishing. On average, it takes three full days of work from sanding to complete drying. Don’t forget the other components that are not yet attached to the hull. The console, the engines, and the lockers, all go through the same process. This is a special skill. You don’t just become a painter, painting is an art. It takes many years to perfect. Our painters spend time on each item to achieve perfection. The most important part of painting a boat is the preparation. If the substrate is not well prepared, the paint will not look good. When I created Iguana Yachts in May 2008, I was just trying to go sailing at any time of the day from my house near Granville (close to the Mont Saint Michel in France) where tides can reach up to 45 feet and the sea disappears miles away.Today, we sell our amphibious Iguanas in more than 25 countries around the world and it is not only about tides. It is just about simplicity and freedom. When I look back, I see the long way we covered during all these years and this is to a large extent thanks to you.You were not so many to believe in us when we launched Iguana Yachts 15 years ago but you trusted our ability to make the Iguanas strong enough to endure the sand, the wind, and the salt, efficient enough to deal with any type of ground as well as navigate harsh seas, seaworthy enough to be considered as one of the best 30 feet tenders in the market today.Thank you for your tremendous support which helped us become what we are today.Thank you for enjoying your Iguana every day of the year,Let’s continue to create together the future of motor boating,All the bestAntoine Brugidou, Iguana Yachts’ CEO IN 2022... Categories Non classé“I COULD NEVER GO BACK TO A REGULAR BOAT WITH NO LANDING GEAR” Post author By Clémence Thellier Post date 24 January 2023 The owner of an Iguana X100 in Maryland, USA, tells us how much he appreciates the boat and its unique ability to travel on land. George Tunis joined the Iguana family in 2020 and the X100 is his first Iguana. "I LITERALLY CANNOT IMAGINE NOW HAVING A BOAT WITHOUT A LAND DRIVE SYSTEM" Once you have had an iguana it’s impossible to go back to a regular boat. I think most boat owners have experienced this: when you get a boat all of a sudden the bays and the ocean become your backyard, your territory expands enormously. The freedom is just incredible. And with an Iguana, you can almost double that because now just about everywhere you go, you can land. It should be on almost every boat. It’s a brilliant evolution of boats. I think people that try an Iguana and go up on a beach once, can’t undo it. Iguana boats are very addictive."THE EXPERIENCES I CAN ACCESS ARE PROBABLY ONE OF THE GREATEST LUXURY IN MY LIFE"We are in Ocean City and we often use the boat to go to Assateague Island. I would say we use the boat once to five times every weekend. Some of the islands we live close to are marshy and muddy, there’s places you really can’t go without an Iguana. The boat is cavernous inside, it has a lot of really good storage. We have underneath the center console, beach chairs, umbrellas, beach toys, firewood, and boogie boards. We use the boat as a giant toy box, a safari vehicle to go have fun.Driving the boat up onto a deserted beach, having a bonfire, roasting some marshmallows with the kids, and letting the stars come out, then everybody jumps back on the boat and we’re home, is probably the greatest luxury in my life. You could give me a billion dollars and there’s no way I can have more fun. The boat has great lighting, a FLIR camera, and radar. So I feel very safe driving the boat at night."IT MAKES YOU APPRECIATE THE NATURAL BEAUTY WITHOUT EVER HURTING IT"Our region gets really crowded in the summer. There are about 10 miles of paved roads in the Assateague National Park, there’s nowhere to turn around, and you could be trapped for hours in your car. The cars are all running and keeping their air conditioning on. The carbon footprint of that is terrible. That’s just not a very environmentally sound way to get there. With my electric drive Iguana, I get directly to the beach. To leave, I drive another 20 yards and I am back in the water again. Our tracks are always erased by the next high tide. It makes you appreciate the natural beauty, instead of parking lots. It’s really been good for our little girls to understand the water, the beach, and the environment. "THE BOAT IS EXTREMELY CAPABLE ON LAND AND ON WATER"We land in some decent-sized waves. Three to four-foot surf is very safe with families on board. It’s incredibly safe in the surf because you’re above the waves when you’re on the tracks. It is the driest boat I’ve ever owned. At sea, because of the way it deflects the spray with the tubes, it really keeps you dry, even when it’s choppy and windy. It is an incredibly seaworthy boat in surf conditions and it has a very low center of gravity.I have found that the boat passes in really soft mud. It will get through just about anything. The thing’s incredible on land and extremely capable on water. It does well in both environments."THIS INVENTION HAS ELIMINATED ALL THE STRESS AND HASSLE"Near the inlet where we live, there’s a big sandbar. When the tide is changing, there’s a lot of current so it takes at least two anchors to attach your boat securely. When the tide comes back in, you’ve got to change all your anchor lines. It’s no fun and there will be hundreds of boats trying to get good anchoring spots in the summertime. This invention has eliminated all of that stress and hassle. When it’s six inches deep, we can just crawl right up with the caterpillar drive and get out on dry land. "THE BOAT IS OUR CAR"In the summertime, and even in the wintertime, the boat is our car. When there is a traffic jam for miles we can just jump in the boat. You go from some of the best surfing spots all by yourself and then literally 10 minutes later you’re in giant crowds of people running up to get some pizza, and then go home and get everybody to bed at night, no car involved at all. Because it is so easy to go from land to water and back to land, you can really take advantage of the weather. When the sun pops out, we jump on the boat and we are on the beach.Over the years our bay got filled in with a lot of sand that was washed in from the ocean. No other boats can get to the docks as the water is very shallow. We’re one of the few boats that is used all year round. We have a plastic enclosure that we put on at the back of the boat. "IT IS MUCH SAFER FOR LITTLE KIDS AND ELDERLY PEOPLE" My mom is 87 and I can still get her to the beach. There’s no other way I could. One of the best parts of the boat is the ladder. The ladder is absolutely magic. Most boats are really hard to get on and off. It is not too bad jumping onto the sand but getting back in is almost impossible. And the Iguana just solves that whole problem brilliantly. What I really like about the RIB is that it is incredibly easy to dock and you can embark on a lot of people. It’s just an incredibly soft boat. There’s not much to really hurt yourself on an Iguana which is great for little kids. "I HAVE HAD SOME OF THE BEST CONVERSATIONS AND IDEAS ON THIS BOAT"The back of the boat is such a nice living area back. I’ve had some of the best discussions with my older son and my older daughter, on this boat, talking about life, boyfriends and girlfriends, studies, and their careers now. It’s an extraordinary connection that the Iguana has given us to one another but also to the water, to the land, and to the environment. The ability to get away from your work life and make the jump into family life is what an Iguana does. I’ve had ideas up on the beach for my company, when you get total decompression, you let go of work, that’s when the good ideas happen. DO NOT HESITATE, GET YOUR OWN! IGUANA X100

Categories Non classéMEET TOBY, THE IGUANA YACHTS’ SALES MANAGER FOR LEISURE Post author By Clémence Thellier Post date 20 December 2022 If you follow our Instagram account, you have probably seen Toby Scruby’s photos or perhaps you have already met him on boat shows: he is our sales manager for leisure. Originally a water sports instructor in the UK, he moved to Dubai and became a superyacht salesman. Here is his unusual career path and what brought him to Iguana Yachts. INSTAGRAM HOW DID YOU GET IN THE MOTOR BOATING INDUSTRY? “I’ve been in the industry since I was 17 years old. I secured a place at the UK Sailing Academy on the Isle of Wight to be trained as a Professional Water Sports Instructor. After my training finished I then went overseas and worked for various Water Sports based companies. When I was 22 I decided to spend some time in London and secured a job working for a well-known Marine Parts manufacturer called Holt Allen, back then it was Jack Holt. This then exposed me to a new area of the Leisure Boating Market.”“In 2004, I had the opportunity to visit Dubai and during that visit, I saw an opportunity to be part of an early growth stage of what has now become a massive Yachting hub. I secured my first position running Fairline Yachts for the GCC, it was lovely being connected to British Builder and I was very passionate about the product and the highlight of my time was securing the sale of Fairline’s flagship model, the Squadron 74. This then led me to various other opportunities working with Sunseeker, Azimut/Bennetti, and then setting up my own Marine Company under the umbrella of the Al Futtaim Family, called al Futtaim Marine. This grew very quickly to become the UAE’s leading aftersales provider and we secured some excellent warranty contracts, from Chris Craft to Lurssen. Walking around M/Y Azzam was defiantly a highlight and being asked to carry out various works on board proved we had some of the best and most skilled technicians available. The final stages of my 18 years stint in Dubai took me into working for a Private Office and Fleet Managing/Owners rep which I thoroughly enjoyed.”WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE IGUANA ADVENTURE?“It was the challenge of having a product, which was obviously not an easy sell. But had a great purpose/solution to people’s boating needs. It was definitely a challenge seeing whether I could make it work and I’m pleased to say we have secured many new clients and dealers globally, plus becoming a serious contender in the Super Yacht tender market, which is very exciting. I remember the first time I drove an Iguana, I think it was in Dubai. I had to go and do a delivery and I had never even been on one before. It was quite terrifying! But I was equally surprised by how simple and user-friendly the Track System was. I was a little apprehensive at the early stages but the more time I spent with clients and time on board it really has become a serious solution to solving clients’ boating needs, should it be a property located on a tidal estuary in the UK or a wonderful private island in the Philippines.”WHAT IS IT LIKE DRIVING AN IGUANA? HOW DIFFERENT IS IT FROM A REGULAR BOAT?“One thing that we always come back to is the seaworthiness of our boats. Especially the X100, the high-sided tubes, and nearly 4 tonnes weight makes the X100 a really good sea boat. A lot of people don’t see this as they automatically just look at the amphibious ability, the Iguana also provides a proper platform that you would find on any other nonamphibious boat, our track system doesn’t hinder any of the internal space on board.” WHAT VISION DO YOU HAVE FOR THE FUTURE OF IGUANA YACHTS?“I think we’re definitely growing our super yacht market. In recent years clients have wanted to extend their cruising zones and explore more places in the world, which the Iguana fits perfectly with. As one client says he looks forward to his “Iguana Adventure” so the future for Iguana is strong in both the Yachting sector and interestingly the hotel and Resort market is quickly catching onto the ease and safety of guest transfer from waterside locations.”JOIN THE TEAM!Are you interested in joining our team?
