THE ROYAL COUPLE OF THAILAND ABOARD THE IGUANA X100

Thailand holds a special place in our hearts as it is the location of our first dealer in Asia, Motor Field (Thailand). In April, a sailing event took place in Hua-Hin in the Gulf of Thailand, which the Queen of Thailand attended as part of one of the teams. More than 1000 people were involved in ensuring the safety and smooth running of the event.

Motor Field (Thailand) had the opportunity to participate in the event by providing an Iguana X100 to transport the royal couple from the beach to the team regatta. You will find some pictures below of the event featuring this iconic model and our dealer, Motor Field (Thailand).

THE IGUANA X100 IN THE GULF OF THAILAND

Sam, the director of Motor Field Group, spent two days preparing for this challenge. They also coordinated with the authorities to ensure everything would run smoothly. When the King and Queen of the Kingdom of Thailand arrived, they boarded the Iguana and left the beach to head towards one of the regatta boat. Our amphibious boat was then used to land back on the beach, allowing the King and Queen of the Kingdom of Thailand to return effortlessly, despite the waves. Thanks to the Iguana, logistics were easily put in place for travel, once again demonstrating the power and possibilities of amphibious transportation.

OUR OFFICIAL DEALER IN THAILAND: MOTOR FIELD GROUP

Our official dealer in Thailand will be delighted to answer any questions you may have about Iguana Yachts, and will also be happy to organize a sea trial.

MEET CHARLÉLIE, A UNIQUE ROLE IN MAKING TUBES FOR IGUANA RIBS

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOURSELF

About my studies, I completed a baccalaureate technician carpenter fitter which subsequently allowed me to obtain a CAP in cabinetmaking to finish with a certificate in crafts. To validate this diploma, I had to complete an internship and that is how I arrived at Iguana. I had already done internships before and it was during my second year of certification that I arrived here.  I arrived at Iguana Yachts in 2019. I subsequently obtained a promise of employment which was reassuring for me in order to be able to find stability. My first mission was in the field of carpentry for Iguana cabins. The opportunity to start working in tubes arose when the launch of the Iguana X100 began, so it was necessary to start producing tubes to build the boats. A position was therefore to be filled to fulfill these missions and I was the person who wanted to take the niche by learning the basics. Regarding the tube, there are several steps such as preparing the patches as well as gluing them. There is also a quality role to ensure that the tube holds but is also waterproof of course to withstand water at sea and climatic conditions.

I immediately got along very well with the team, which was an important point for me to feel good about my work.

WHAT ARE YOUR MISSIONS AT IGUANA?

As stated above, I came as a carpenter, however I am currently carrying out missions related to tubes. The vessels concerned are therefore the X100, X100 White Edition, and the Knight. I had already worked with neoprene which was positive because I already knew one of the basic materials. I was also satisfied to take this role because it gave me an additional skill in my knowledge. The aesthetic aspect immediately attracted me to the tubes but especially the technical side with meticulous gestures which are close to what I knew from my experience in carpentry.

HOW DO YOU INSTALL THE TUBE ON THE RIB'S?

The process for tubes at Iguana is as follows: we receive a tube with a time-saving manufacturing base. We position the tube on the boat to trace the areas to be sanded to prepare certain areas in particular for gluing this tube. Afterward, I trace the patches and then glue the cuffs on them so that they are ready. I then apply my patches to my tube. You should know that at this moment the tube is still on the ground because all the preparations must be perfect before being able to complete the bonding on the boat. Once everything is validated (patches and cuffs), I glue the tube to the boat. You might think that my mission is complete after this step but I still have to make all the connections between the tube with the bridge, the console, and the bench that we call the lips. Finally, I do the fender part to finalize the turn of the tube. This step is last because the tube can tend to twist during gluing, so I take no risk that the fender will twist too. Of course, there is also cleaning for maximum finishes. To carry out all of these missions I will need approximately 1 week depending on the people who will help me but also the drying time to take into account the color of the tube. On a black tube, the fender will be more complicated to clean than a fender on a gray tube.

Some missions were more challenging, for example, we had a boat with tubes that could inflate and deflate so that it could be put into a garage. The most different step was adding valves inside and I didn’t know how to do it at the time. So I had to learn and that was the biggest difficulty to overcome.

To me, Iguana can be summed up in three words: team, impressive, and pride. The team aspect is very important to me as we spend all our days working together. It's impressive because we never know what the result will be when we start from scratch, but we always manage to create something amazing. Lastly, I feel proud of what we accomplished. Even though we always strive to do better, it's still astonishing to see what we can create.

IGUANA YACHTS STEPS INTO A NEW ERA WITH ELECTRIC BOATS

Iguana Yachts goes one step further with an innovation that is both groundbreaking and sustainable. With a 10-year tried and tested technology, Iguana Yachts is ready for another challenge and to lead the way with sustainable and innovative solutions. For the first time in the maritime industry, a fully electric amphibious Bow Rider will see the light of day in the Iguana Yachts shipyard. Here is the very first teaser about this model as well as the first characteristics of the boat to better understand its creation.

When I launched Iguana Yachts, 15 years ago, I thought that there were no reasons for boats not to be able to be launched or retrieved on their own. This has been an incredible challenge but we dealt with it successfully. In the same way, twenty years ago skepticism about electric mobility was dominant in the car industry and finally it is happening at scale today in the world. Similarly, this new challenge will hit the nautical industry and we, Iguana Yachts, want to be a key player in this transformation. Our new Bow Rider is the first step in the direction of carbon free motor boats and I thank our client, who gave us the opportunity to design and deliver a full electric Iguana (Land and Sea) which will be used on a lake in East Europe where thermic engines are not anymore accepted.

This boat is the fruit of the pioneering vision of our founder, Antoine Brugidou, who for many years has worked to offer our customers a completely carbon-free solution and with multidisciplinary skills of our teams. In addition to the integration of an electrical system, all of the company's technical teams (composites, mechanics, naval architecture, supply chain and production) worked together to offer this new model. Iguana's DNA is to offer boat enthusiasts unique technological solutions that improve their daily lives. With this boat which requires no infrastructure and which emits no CO2, I believe that we have succeeded in our challenge of making the most sustainable boat in the world.

THE GROUND BREACKING EVOY ELECTRIC TECHNOLOGIES

The Iguana Bow Rider Electric will be equipped with the silence Outboard Evoy Storm motor of 300 Horse Power. The Storm is more than a powerful motor, it’s a plug-and-play powertrain solution and a brilliant solution from our Norwegian colleagues.

Meet the most powerful electric outboard motor on the market. The Storm is a turnkey motor system that delivers 300 continuous horsepower. With instant torque, bringing your boat to planning speed is quick and effortless. Not only is the motor incredibly responsive, it showcases superior maneuverability. Built to last, the robust design can tackle fresh and saltwater. The system comes with the battery pack of your choice, fast charging options, and a touchscreen.

This vessel is a first in decarbonization for amphibious boats in order to constantly evolve as the market as well as customer demand.

THE PERFECT MODEL FOR LAKES

With this new electric technology combined with the Iguana Bow Rider, lakes become the perfect playground in European lakes. We look forward to showing you the different stages of construction for this unique new model which will mark a milestone in the history of Iguana Yachts. Sustainability has always been part of Iguana Yachts DNA. With minimal requisites in logistics, materials, infrastructure and anti-fouling, amphibious boats are overall more environmentally friendly and last longer as they do not stay in the water all-year long. It is a natural development for Iguana Yachts to go for electric propulsion to offer the most sustainable motor-boating experience in the world. Iguana Yachts keeps up with changes in regulations and market trends and adjusts its products to cater to potential future customers. In some countries, multiple lakes can only allow by electric boats.

PREPARE YOUR IGUANA FOR THE SEASON: OUR TIPS FOR RESTARTING AFTER WINTER

As the winter chill fades away and the promise of warmer days beckons, boat enthusiasts eagerly anticipate reviving their beloved vessels for a new season of adventure on the water. Whether you’re a seasoned captain or a newcomer to the world of amphibious boating, here are our tips to help you restart your Iguana Boat after its winter hibernation.

1. FIRST STEP: OVERALL CHECK

Start by conducting a thorough visual inspection of the exterior of your Iguana. Check for any signs of damage or wear caused by winter weather conditions or by the time. Inspect the hull for cracks, scratches, or any areas requiring repair. Pay particular attention to the propulsion system, including propellers and thrusters, to ensure they are in good working condition.

2. THE IGUANA MOBILITY SYSTEM

After a general examination, approach the tracks and check that everything is in order. Take the time to run your hand along the pipes looking for leaks or kinks. For safety and efficiency reasons, the hoses should be changed every two years. Schedule an intervention with your Iguana representative.

3. MISCELLANEOUS ELEMENTS INSPECTION

Then, inspect the various elements: the ladder, the cleats, the handrails, the biminis, etc., to make sure they all are safe and in working order.

4. CHECK YOUR LEVELS AND THE BATTERY

As we recommend during the winterization, your Iguana batteries are already placed on trickle charge. Either through your shore power connection or a normal trickle charging unit that you use on your car or your motorcycle. Move on to check your coolant and engine oil levels and hydraulic oil.

5. SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Make sure your safety equipment is working. Check the validation date of the gas cartridges fitted to the inflatable vests. Ensure that the batteries of the different elements are not discharged. This is also a good time to see that you have all the right elements for a safe trip to the sea.

6. OUTBOARD ENGINES & SEA TRIAL

Finally, when everything has been verified, start your Iguana Mobility System. Do not hesitate to perform a few maneuvers to wake up the system after a long period of immobility. Finally, start your outboards in the open air for about 5 seconds to check their condition. If you have the opportunity, do not hesitate to enter and exit the water to check the condition of the outboards. Start them at least once in the water. If all goes well, your iguana is ready for the season.

Have a wonderful season. Do not forget to put your drain plug back in!

A question? An observation? Do not hesitate to contact our after-sales service.

MEET PIERRE EDELINE: THE TALENTED AFTERSALES MANAGER

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOURSELF

I grew up in Orne, in Normandy. I moved to Caen when I was in high school and preparatory class. From a young age, I wanted to become an engineer. I was fascinated by understanding the complex inner workings of machines, particularly how different components come together to work seamlessly. During the preparatory course, I had the chance to explore various specializations in engineering. Faced with the choice between mechanical and electrical engineering, I was captivated by the world of energy and combustion. After completing a two-year preparatory course, I enrolled in a three-year engineering course at Nevers (ISAT:), an institution renowned for its orientation toward the automotive industry. I worked on engines, electric and thermal, and everything relating to remediation in particular. My studies were very linked to motorsport. During my second year, I took the opportunity to participate in a six-month internship in Valencia, Spain, at a prestigious research institute. During my time in Valencia, I worked on vehicle hybridization, which gave me invaluable information and experience. This internship was incredibly rewarding and reaffirmed my passion for the engineering field.

I am very proud of my journey and the chances I was given. I like what I do. I jumped at the opportunities I was given and I'm glad I did.

HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT IGUANA YACHTS?

Following my internship at a research center in Spain, I looked for opportunities within unconventional companies. During this search, I came across Iguana Yachts, a company that particularly resonated with me due to its location in Normandy, where I aimed to remain. Upon spontaneous application, I was fortunate to be selected by the Design Office Manager. At the age of 22, I commenced my journey at Iguana Yachts, initially focusing on tasks about battery technology before progressively expanding my skill set.

In July 2021, I formalized my commitment to the company by signing a permanent contract. I worked closely under the supervision of the head of the design office. Aside from my assigned tasks, I identified opportunities for process optimization, especially in harness plans. Recognizing their complexity and the resulting obstacles for the production team, I worked on these shots to improve understandability for individuals, regardless of their familiarity. At the same time, I undertook the task of debugging the boats, contributing to our collective quest for operational excellence.

FROM THE DESIGN OFFICE TO THE PRODUCTION TEAM

Debugging a boat before it leaves the company is a crucial stage in its launch process. Beyond mere aesthetics, I prioritize ensuring that all quality standards are met to guarantee a safe start. This involves meticulous inspection of every system, including the initialization of the IMS, batteries, basic equipment, and outboards. I devote particular attention to internal connections, a meticulous process that typically spans 10 to 12 hours. Despite its time-consuming nature, I find this task immensely rewarding, demanding both technical expertise and a profound understanding of the boat’s intricacies.

My proficiency in debugging was honed through practical training sessions with Samuel and Antonin from the after-sales service team. Recognizing the need to alleviate their workload, I proactively stepped in to address production emergencies that surged during 2022. These unattended issues were burdening the after-sales service team with additional workloads. Embracing the challenge, I devoted more time to independent production work for about 3 to 4 months.

Following this, I engaged in discussions with my manager, leading to an agreement to transition under the supervision of Benoit Beukels, the production manager. I relish the hands-on involvement in the shipyard. By closely monitoring the entire production chain, I could identify and resolve issues preemptively, mitigating potential problems before they escalated. This proactive approach not only streamlined operations but also deepened my understanding of the production process as a whole.

Nicolas Rouault and Pierre Edeline

MANAGER AT 24: A GREAT EXPERIENCE

A few months later, Samuel, the head of the after-sales team, announced his departure from the company. Bringing in a stranger seemed impractical, especially given the complexities associated with an iguana, especially overseas, which require a thorough understanding of the vessel.

After numerous discussions with management, I agreed to accept this position. By then, I had established good relationships with other members of the after-sales service team. However, my ability to undertake regular assignments worldwide has been hampered by personal reasons. We therefore decided to recruit a second technician, Max. This managerial role is my first, and it is a challenge, which requires patience and careful organization. In terms of management, I chose to empower my team. We discuss the different tasks to be carried out every day, but each week begins with a meeting regarding the weekly organization. They can therefore arrange their working time as they wish and this involves them more.

HOW DOES YOUR TEAM WORK?

To strengthen our team, Nicolas Rouault joined us in September 2023 to manage the customer relations part. He therefore takes care of interactions with them, ensures their satisfaction, and defends their interests. For my part, I supervise Max and Maugan, the two after-sales service technicians. Together we take care of the technical aspects of the boats, the refit schedule, the preparation of missions, and the organization of the site for the after-sales service part. I also take care of debugging the boats alongside Benoit, the production director.

We have a strong family-like atmosphere, and that's what sets us apart. We're all in this together, standing by each other no matter what. Nobody gets left behind; we're there to support each other. That's what I love about Iguana.
