PREPARE YOUR IGUANA FOR THE SEASON: OUR TIPS FOR RESTARTING AFTER WINTER

As the winter chill fades away and the promise of warmer days beckons, boat enthusiasts eagerly anticipate reviving their beloved vessels for a new season of adventure on the water. Whether you’re a seasoned captain or a newcomer to the world of amphibious boating, here are our tips to help you restart your Iguana Boat after its winter hibernation.

1. FIRST STEP: OVERALL CHECK

Start by conducting a thorough visual inspection of the exterior of your Iguana. Check for any signs of damage or wear caused by winter weather conditions or by the time. Inspect the hull for cracks, scratches, or any areas requiring repair. Pay particular attention to the propulsion system, including propellers and thrusters, to ensure they are in good working condition.

2. THE IGUANA MOBILITY SYSTEM

After a general examination, approach the tracks and check that everything is in order. Take the time to run your hand along the pipes looking for leaks or kinks. For safety and efficiency reasons, the hoses should be changed every two years. Schedule an intervention with your Iguana representative.

3. MISCELLANEOUS ELEMENTS INSPECTION

Then, inspect the various elements: the ladder, the cleats, the handrails, the biminis, etc., to make sure they all are safe and in working order.

4. CHECK YOUR LEVELS AND THE BATTERY

As we recommend during the winterization, your Iguana batteries are already placed on trickle charge. Either through your shore power connection or a normal trickle charging unit that you use on your car or your motorcycle. Move on to check your coolant and engine oil levels and hydraulic oil.

5. SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Make sure your safety equipment is working. Check the validation date of the gas cartridges fitted to the inflatable vests. Ensure that the batteries of the different elements are not discharged. This is also a good time to see that you have all the right elements for a safe trip to the sea.

6. OUTBOARD ENGINES & SEA TRIAL

Finally, when everything has been verified, start your Iguana Mobility System. Do not hesitate to perform a few maneuvers to wake up the system after a long period of immobility. Finally, start your outboards in the open air for about 5 seconds to check their condition. If you have the opportunity, do not hesitate to enter and exit the water to check the condition of the outboards. Start them at least once in the water. If all goes well, your iguana is ready for the season.

Have a wonderful season. Do not forget to put your drain plug back in!

A question? An observation? Do not hesitate to contact our after-sales service.

MEET PIERRE EDELINE: THE TALENTED AFTERSALES MANAGER

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOURSELF

I grew up in Orne, in Normandy. I moved to Caen when I was in high school and preparatory class. From a young age, I wanted to become an engineer. I was fascinated by understanding the complex inner workings of machines, particularly how different components come together to work seamlessly. During the preparatory course, I had the chance to explore various specializations in engineering. Faced with the choice between mechanical and electrical engineering, I was captivated by the world of energy and combustion. After completing a two-year preparatory course, I enrolled in a three-year engineering course at Nevers (ISAT:), an institution renowned for its orientation toward the automotive industry. I worked on engines, electric and thermal, and everything relating to remediation in particular. My studies were very linked to motorsport. During my second year, I took the opportunity to participate in a six-month internship in Valencia, Spain, at a prestigious research institute. During my time in Valencia, I worked on vehicle hybridization, which gave me invaluable information and experience. This internship was incredibly rewarding and reaffirmed my passion for the engineering field.

I am very proud of my journey and the chances I was given. I like what I do. I jumped at the opportunities I was given and I'm glad I did.

HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT IGUANA YACHTS?

Following my internship at a research center in Spain, I looked for opportunities within unconventional companies. During this search, I came across Iguana Yachts, a company that particularly resonated with me due to its location in Normandy, where I aimed to remain. Upon spontaneous application, I was fortunate to be selected by the Design Office Manager. At the age of 22, I commenced my journey at Iguana Yachts, initially focusing on tasks about battery technology before progressively expanding my skill set.

In July 2021, I formalized my commitment to the company by signing a permanent contract. I worked closely under the supervision of the head of the design office. Aside from my assigned tasks, I identified opportunities for process optimization, especially in harness plans. Recognizing their complexity and the resulting obstacles for the production team, I worked on these shots to improve understandability for individuals, regardless of their familiarity. At the same time, I undertook the task of debugging the boats, contributing to our collective quest for operational excellence.

FROM THE DESIGN OFFICE TO THE PRODUCTION TEAM

Debugging a boat before it leaves the company is a crucial stage in its launch process. Beyond mere aesthetics, I prioritize ensuring that all quality standards are met to guarantee a safe start. This involves meticulous inspection of every system, including the initialization of the IMS, batteries, basic equipment, and outboards. I devote particular attention to internal connections, a meticulous process that typically spans 10 to 12 hours. Despite its time-consuming nature, I find this task immensely rewarding, demanding both technical expertise and a profound understanding of the boat’s intricacies.

My proficiency in debugging was honed through practical training sessions with Samuel and Antonin from the after-sales service team. Recognizing the need to alleviate their workload, I proactively stepped in to address production emergencies that surged during 2022. These unattended issues were burdening the after-sales service team with additional workloads. Embracing the challenge, I devoted more time to independent production work for about 3 to 4 months.

Following this, I engaged in discussions with my manager, leading to an agreement to transition under the supervision of Benoit Beukels, the production manager. I relish the hands-on involvement in the shipyard. By closely monitoring the entire production chain, I could identify and resolve issues preemptively, mitigating potential problems before they escalated. This proactive approach not only streamlined operations but also deepened my understanding of the production process as a whole.

Nicolas Rouault and Pierre Edeline

MANAGER AT 24: A GREAT EXPERIENCE

A few months later, Samuel, the head of the after-sales team, announced his departure from the company. Bringing in a stranger seemed impractical, especially given the complexities associated with an iguana, especially overseas, which require a thorough understanding of the vessel.

After numerous discussions with management, I agreed to accept this position. By then, I had established good relationships with other members of the after-sales service team. However, my ability to undertake regular assignments worldwide has been hampered by personal reasons. We therefore decided to recruit a second technician, Max. This managerial role is my first, and it is a challenge, which requires patience and careful organization. In terms of management, I chose to empower my team. We discuss the different tasks to be carried out every day, but each week begins with a meeting regarding the weekly organization. They can therefore arrange their working time as they wish and this involves them more.

HOW DOES YOUR TEAM WORK?

To strengthen our team, Nicolas Rouault joined us in September 2023 to manage the customer relations part. He therefore takes care of interactions with them, ensures their satisfaction, and defends their interests. For my part, I supervise Max and Maugan, the two after-sales service technicians. Together we take care of the technical aspects of the boats, the refit schedule, the preparation of missions, and the organization of the site for the after-sales service part. I also take care of debugging the boats alongside Benoit, the production director.

We have a strong family-like atmosphere, and that's what sets us apart. We're all in this together, standing by each other no matter what. Nobody gets left behind; we're there to support each other. That's what I love about Iguana.

A NEW UNIQUE CUSTOMIZATION OF AN IGUANA TENDER

At Iguana Yachts, we pride ourselves on meticulously fulfilling our clients’ requests down to the smallest detail. Especially for superyacht owners. We understand the importance of crafting the ideal yacht tender to complement the mothership. Recognizing the individuality of each vessel, our engineers innovate bespoke solutions, incorporating lifting or towing points that seamlessly align with your vessel’s unique specifications.

Thus, we create the ideal amphibious yacht tender for your adventures at sea. Whether it is to move your guests, have a picnic, or do water sports, the Iguana is the perfect tender. Treat yourself to unlimited access to the most exceptional beaches, and experience limitless adventure and endless exploration. Discover our latest project for a 70m yacht.

BRAND NEW CUSTOMIZATION: TOTAL LENGTH

For this Iguana, our team of engineers worked in particular on the total length of the boat. Normally 9m45 along with the outboard engines, the tender had to be shortened by 20cm to fit into the superyacht’s garage. It was an interesting challenge for our team: rearrange the deck and the different elements to not hinder the boat’s capabilities. A large part of the hydraulic elements of the tracks are located towards the rear deck. However, for weight and layout reasons, moving some of these elements to the foredeck was necessary to ensure safety and efficiency. Additionally, the T-top has been removed and the windshield is removable. The Iguana had to be able to be both towed and lifted by the mothership.

EXPLORATION VERSABILITY

The new owner of the Iguana is an explorer. Aboard his yacht, he sets off to discover the world in remote places. He likes the Iguana because it is the ideal tender to accompany you wherever you want. Thanks to its tracks, don’t hesitate to go on an adventure anymore. Around the world, enjoy exceptional experiences without restricting yourself. Whether you’re going on an expedition or exploring remote coves and inlets, the Iguana is the perfect platform for your adventures.

PERFORMANCE AND RELIABILITY

Iguana Yachts offers extensive customization options, allowing adventurers to personalize their vessels according to their preferences and requirements. Whether it’s selecting bespoke finishes, integrating specific features, or optimizing the layout for adventure gear storage, the flexibility in customization ensures that each Iguana Yacht is uniquely suited to its owner’s needs. Its robust construction, advanced engineering, and rigorous testing ensure optimal performance in diverse conditions, providing adventurers with peace of mind and confidence to tackle any challenge.

COME WITH US TO DELIVER AN IGUANA IN HERM ISLAND

The delivery of an Iguana is always an exceptional moment, whether it is for us who see one of our new vessels leaving, but also for the customer who finally sees their unique new boat with a mix of performance and technology.

For each delivery, regardless of its location, an Iguana representative is present on-site to ensure the boat’s condition and complete final procedures. Delivering a boat is a delicate step because preserving its condition is our priority for us. This time, the delivery was made to Herm Island, which is connected to UK territory in the Channel Islands to deliver an Iguana Commuter.

AN EPIC JOURNEY TO HERM ISLAND

The boat was trucked to the French port of Dielette to have the best geographical conditions to head towards the Channel Islands despite the winter weather condition.

It normally takes 1h15 to reach the first stop: Guernsey. However, it was longer this time with fairly complex navigation conditions. During winter, navigating in the Northern Hemisphere becomes challenging due to adverse weather conditions. As our priority was the safety of the boat, we took all necessary precautions to ensure a smooth crossing. Although we encountered severe weather while leaving the French coast, we were fortunate enough to have favorable weather conditions when we arrived at the Channel Islands, which allowed us to complete the journey without any further difficulties. You can see some photos of the trip below.

We had to pass through customs on the island of Guernsey due to our French nationality and the required boat papers. The time between this mandatory process and arriving at the stunning Isle of Herm is only 15 minutes. This beautiful island is an ideal destination for the amphibious capabilities of the Iguana boats, making it a perfect playground for adventure-seekers.

THE SPECIAL USE CASE OF THE PRIVATE ISLAND OF HERM

Herm Island is a unique and special place. It covers an area of 200 ha and nearly 60 residents live there year-round. Although it is a magnificent place, the terrain can be challenging for outsiders to navigate. It is one of the most difficult islands to access due to the numerous rocks and strips of sand, which is handicapping for all other boats.  The client was unable to construct infrastructure to mooring his boat near his home. The Iguana was the solution that satisfied our customer’s needs for daily use throughout the year.

Iguana Yachts for islands

THE BESPOKE IGUANA COMMUTER FOR HERM ISLAND

The Iguana Commuter is the most technologically advanced Iguana of the range. For this client in particular, there are several features such as 6 seats which are more comparable to car seats than to a boat bench seat. You should also know that the usefulness of this boat is daily, it can be compared to a car with the objective of responding to everyday tasks. With an Iguana, it is possible to easily travel to Guernsey to go shopping or to explore the French coasts which are only about 1 hour away.

MEET BRIGITTE BISSONNIER, OUR PRECIOUS AND ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTANT

Accounting and administration have more significant roles in a company than most people realize. This is why Brigitte Bissonnier, our accountant, has one of the most important roles in our company and has been with us for more than seven years now. We have had the pleasure of interviewing her about her career, responsibilities, objectives, and how Iguana has changed over the past seven years.

WHAT WAS YOUR PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND BEFORE IGUANA YACHTS?

“Originally, I was a sales assistant. But a few years after I started I had the opportunity to work as both a sales assistant and an accountant. When the company split, I was offered a chance to stay as a 100% accountant.

I have always loved accounting, even though I have an interest in business. I like the notion of numbers and analysis at the service of the operational side, which allows you to understand the life and functioning of the company.

I have been doing accounting for 40 years now and I have seen the accounting profession evolve thanks to technology, whether it is computers or data storage. I started with floppy disks where you could store only a small amount of data, whereas now everything is digitized. I think the amount of work I do now with these tools should have been two times.

Before arriving at Iguana, I worked as a multi-employer, which means that I worked for several different companies. In the beginning, I arrived at Iguana Yachts part-time, but the evolution of the company and the departure of the executive assistant meant that I took on more responsibilities.”

The Iguana is design, incredible and luxurious at the same time. A unique product.

WHAT ARE YOUR MISSIONS AT IGUANA YACHTS?

“I arrived at Iguana to assist in creating a balance sheet, and as time went on, I was given more responsibilities. I learned about Iguana through a former accountant I worked with. Although I have sailed when i was young and enjoy shipbuilding, prior to joining Iguana, I had never worked in boats industry. However, I realized that any company needs to manage its accounting, and Iguana provided me with the opportunity to explore various areas. I joined Iguana in January 2017 when it was a start-up with a small team. Over the years, the number of people in the teams doubled as we grew into a semi-industrial company while maintaining our artisanal aspect.

Initially, I was involved in managing suppliers and payments, as well as preparing payslips related to human resources. Later, I took on administrative tasks. I have gained a lot of experience and confidence as my tasks progressed, which is important for my current role to ensure that I do not mislead others. Although there is no typical day at Iguana, we always encounter new things. However, the beginning of each day usually involves processing emails, checking bank accounts, as well as cash flow. I handle my assignments weekly to be flexible and efficient, but there are special cases depending on the time of the month or year, such as salaries or the VAT return, where I have fixed dates for certain documents or tasks. Being an accountant requires great attention to detail, impartiality, and knowledge of legal regulations, especially in areas such as taxation.

Nevertheless, the experience of working at Iguana is rewarding and fulfilling, as we get to see the impact of our work firsthand.”

Even administrative staff members like myself feel a sense of purpose and meaning in our roles.

HOW HAS IGUANA YACHTS EVOLVED OVER THE LAST 7 YEARS?

“In 2017, Iguana experienced rapid growth with the arrival of Julien Poirier and the introduction of the Iguana X100. The model was an instant hit and has since become an iconic product for Iguana. This success led to an increase in production and hiring, as well as the creation of the after-sales service team. This department has seen significant growth and plays a crucial role in ensuring customer satisfaction as Iguana products are shipped worldwide.

The teams at Iguana are tightly knit, and everyone contributes to the company’s success. The atmosphere is positive and supportive, and there is a sense of pride in working on something unique and original. Even administrative staff members like myself feel a sense of purpose and meaning in our roles.”

One of the standout memories for me was my first experience with the Iguana Commuter. It was a unique and special experience, and it left a lasting impression on me. I have met many talented individuals at Iguana, including Florent, one of the creators of the Iguana. Each person has left their mark on the company, making Iguana a truly singular and remarkable company.

MEET NICOLAS ROUAULT, OUR NEW CUSTOMER SATISFACTION MANAGER

At Iguana, providing exceptional after-sales service is a top priority. We are dedicated to maintaining a strong link between our customers and our newly appointed customer satisfaction manager, Nicolas Rouault. To learn more about his experience and mission at Iguana, please continue reading.

HOW DID YOU START YOUR PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE?

I started studying Math Sup and Physics Chemistry before continuing with energy and structural materials specializations. I also did a master’s degree in Political Sciences. I began my professional career by joining a shipyard in Spain for an end-of-study internship, specializing in composites, component production, and local boat repair. It was my first experience of luxury and I had the opportunity to create pieces for the yacht of the Emir of Qatar. The shipyard also produced cruising racing boats in small series, and my role concerned the methods and protocolization of the construction of their 10-meter sailboats.

During COVID, I focused on prototyping and 3D printing to address the challenges faced in the sailing world, encompassing data collection, electronics, and boat physics. Passionate about sailing, I continued in the French Navy, working for two years in a Defense innovation laboratory, holding the position of innovation manager. My responsibility was to determine whether the ideas could become reality and to provide practical tools. I focused on crowdsourced innovation, implementing ideas from sailors themselves to meet operational needs. This experience lasted 2 years in Brittany.

WHEN HAVE YOUR HEARD ABOUT IGUANA YACHTS?

While in the Navy, I began hearing about Iguana Yachts. I came across the company’s booth at SOFINS and saw announcements online. Initially applying for the Design Office with a versatile profile, I received an offer related to customer satisfaction due to my background in social sciences and engineering. I decided to embrace the experience, finding it a highly stimulating role with varied days. Additionally, having a unique product adds to the satisfaction and motivation to invest effort.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST FEELING WHEN YOU SAW AN IGUANA?

The first time I saw images of an Iguana, I didn’t understand how the arms folded. I was curious about the working mechanism and the source of energy propelling the tracks. With no knowledge of hydraulics, I wanted to understand the process. This boat is quite complex, involving multiple technological systems, and it was my first encounter with an amphibious vehicle. For me, Iguana in 3 words, is impressive, curious, and complex. I really like working at Iguana and i enjoy working with the team.

WHAT ARE YOUR MISSIONS AT IGUANA YACHTS?

My official title at Iguana is Customer Satisfaction Manager, a broad role encompassing various tasks. We form a team of 3 After Sales team and 2 multidisciplinary technicians capable of performing most repairs on the Iguana. In my role, I wear a dual hat of customer service and sales, with administrative and relational aspects. Consider me the voice of the customer within the company, advocating for their interests and challenging internal colleagues to meet customer satisfaction. We also intervene when certain options are added during production to assess their feasibility and account for them. With each boat purchase, there is a discussion with the sales team to understand needs, usage, and the customer profile to provide the best possible support. Once again, the primary goal is customer satisfaction.

I serve as the client interface from the moment they sign for a boat throughout its operation and lifespan. In other words, I ensure a smooth, comprehensive, and enjoyable customer journey during production. We also handle formalities for the customer to provide a high-end experience. It is also part of my mission to distribute on-call responsibilities and to take on some of them in order to provide our customers with the best possible service. When facing an issue, I attempt to solve it myself or consult the specialists in each department within the company. I, along with my customer service colleagues, also plan missions, interventions, and sales.

I appreciate the social and problem-solving aspects of my work, but there’s also a technical side that I adore and want to retain as I strive to continually understand the intricacies of the Iguana.

The industrial team leaders:

Pierre Edeline – After Sales leader

Nicolas Rouault – Customer Satisfaction Manager

Olivier Gauthier – Engineer Apprentice

Maugan Nion – Aftersales Technician

IGUANA FISHER: DEPARTURE TIME IS COMING SOON

We are getting closer to the departure date of the Iguana Fisher for its future destination, which will be New Zealand. This perfect welcome land for the amphibious will allow the Iguana Fisher to be used to its full potential.

Let’s see the latest additions to the boat as well as some exclusive photos.

THE IGUANA FISHER: THE BEST ALLY FOR FISHERMEN

Some additions have been made to the boat in recent weeks. The goal is for this boat to become the best ally for fishermen going on an adventure. For this, a fridge has been made in order to be able to store bait or even store consumables to keep cool. The drawers next to it allow for more storage of instruments for fishing accessories. Finally, there is a superb central console that is surrounded by a wheelhouse, allowing protection from bad weather. The boat went on a sea trial a few days ago. We are very proud to be able to show you some of the photos.

THE FIRST SEA TRIAL OF THE IGUANA FISHER

During our sea trial, we were able to see the strong points of this amphibious boat. The wheelhouse allows you to stay on the water for a long time while being sheltered and feeling less cold. In addition, several fishing rods can be loaded onto the boat and launched thanks to the numerous hooks present. We will soon share with you information on the departure of the Iguana Fisher as well as photos of its arrival location.

Finally, you also have the tap that we presented to you last month, which allows direct access to water from the boat. A photo shoot was made on the shipyard a few weeks ago and we will show some photos of this photo shoot really soon. Stay tuned to discover the result.

A DREAM REGION TO EXPLORE: THE BAHAMAS

Made up of 700 islands with a coastline of 3500 km, the Bahamas are scattered from Florida to Northern Cuba. The country is made up of 16 main islands in a heavenly setting between nature and modernity. This country is surrounded by a unique island topography as well as extraordinary maritime and coastal diversity.

A REGION FOR AN AMPHIBIOUS BOAT

This Iguana Knight is the best example of how the Iguana is perfect for the Bahamas. It was completely personalized at the client’s request, with colors contrasting greatly with the light tones of this fantastic region. The amphibious capabilities allow its owner to travel from their garden to the turquoise water of the Caribbean Sea, also allowing them to discover unique places around their home.

The particularity of the Iguana Knight is being able to carry out your craziest projects in terms of customizations and options for a boat. The fact is that you will be able to create a project from top to bottom with our team in order to customize your amphibious tender so that it is a perfect fit for what you are doing and can satisfy your needs. This is a great region for amphibious boat.

We also find a unique use case. Indeed, because of the shallow waters, it is difficult to reach or leave insular islands due to the low water level. With an amphibious boat, this aspect is no longer an obstacle and allows you to go from your seaside property to the water or even your yachts.

GET YOUR IGUANA KNIGHT

Every detail counts so that you can enjoy the Caribbean coasts in the best way, whether alone, with friends, or with family. Take advantage of the Iguana to practice your favorite water activities, such as diving to discover the aquatic fauna of these islands or even water skiing, with our amphibious boat equipped with a ski pole.
