MEET ELODIE THIERRY: FROM CARPENTRY TO THE NAUTICAL INDUSTRY

This month, we had the pleasure of interviewing Elodie Thierry. Her career knew a bold change. From working in a call center to becoming a skilled carpenter, Elodie’s story is both inspiring and empowering. Over the past two years at Iguana, she has embraced challenges, discovered the fascinating realm of amphibious boats, and thrived in an environment that values teamwork and innovation.

Read the following interview as we explore her path, her role, and her thoughts on working at Iguana.

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOURSELF

“I am a trained carpenter, but three years ago, I was still working as a call center hostess. Seeking a career change, I decided to move towards manual work. Therefore, I completed a seven-month carpentry training at AFPA (National Organization for Adult Professionalization Training) a little over two years ago.
After that, Benoît Beukels, the current production manager, contacted me via Indeed. He was looking for a carpenter to handle the fittings on boats after deck installation. Since I was not familiar with this area, I suggested visiting the site to better understand the job. It was a real challenge because fittings are a complex discipline, and I had no prior experience in the nautical industry. But I was intrigued, so I took the leap.
This month marks my two-year anniversary with the company, and I am thrilled with my choice. Working in a field I did not know before has been incredibly rewarding. Previously, I focused mainly on interior fittings: furniture, kitchens, and bathrooms. Who would have thought I would one day specialize in outfitting boats?”

WHAT ARE YOUR RESPONSABILITIES?

“In my role, I am primarily responsible for heads, certain interior fittings, and the fittings on boats. Regarding heads, the work involves several steps: designing panels made of Forex (a type of plastic material), laying floors, installing the head, building furniture, and assembling everything.

Then, the Forex panels are used to cover surfaces.”

“I take measurements, install them, and handle the finishing touches, such as lighting or the flush buttons. I also handle plumbing connections.

In addition to heads, I work on fittings after the deck installation and on the exterior details on the deck. Sometimes, I collaborate on group projects, like installing the RIB tubes, which require strong teamwork. I enjoy both working in a team and handling tasks independently, and I adapt well to any situation.”

It is amazing to build boats, but it is even better to try them out. Seeing our work in action is incredibly fulfilling. It also makes us realize the importance of what we do.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IGUANA YACHTS?

“Before joining Iguana, I had never heard of amphibious boats. It was through being contacted for a job that I discovered the brand and its products. I immediately found it fascinating.

Iguana boats stand out from the typical boats you see in ports. Here, everything is focused on leisure: the boats are new, elegant, and modern, very different from traditional commercial vessels.”

“Standing next to one, especially when it is on its tracks, you realize its impressive size. It is inspiring, and it gives me a sense of pride to contribute to their construction.

What motivated me to join Iguana was primarily curiosity. I was excited by the idea of learning something new and discovering a different industry.”

TEAMWORK AT THE HEART OF OUR WORK

“What I appreciate about Iguana is both the product and my job. The variety of tasks and the hands-on nature of the work make each day interesting and stimulating.
Teamwork and kindness are core values here. I have never hesitated to ask for help because the team is always ready to support each other. There is no judgment, just a shared drive to grow together. This mindset is also reflected in how we welcome newcomers: we share our knowledge with patience and kindness. It creates a truly enjoyable and motivating work environment.”

UNVEILING THE FUTURE OF LUXURY BOATING, THE HYBRID IGUANA

Driven by the pursuit of cutting-edge, eco-friendly propulsion solutions, we are thrilled to introduce the world’s first hybrid amphibious boat. Our engineers have pushed the boundaries of innovation by integrating an additional electric motor within the Iguana’s hull. This breakthrough, powered by the advanced BlueNav system, seamlessly transforms our Iguanas into hybrid electric boats.

No noise, no smell, and no CO2 emissions, this revolutionary system minimizes your environmental footprint while optimizing energy management.

Now, you can experience the future of sustainable boating, available as an exclusive option for your next Iguana.

THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS, THE HYBRID ADVANTAGE

Experience the best of both worlds with the Hybrid Iguana, where cutting-edge electric innovation meets the power and reliability of traditional outboard engines.

This game-changing technology gives you the silent, zero-emission benefits of electric propulsion while maintaining the autonomy and performance of a conventional boat. Navigate confidently, whether cruising open waters or maneuvering through shallow areas, as the BlueNav system enhances mobility, even on irregular terrain.

BlueNav Rim Drive Motor

Seamlessly integrated into the hull, this retractable electric motor transforms your Iguana into a hybrid powerhouse, offering an intuitive and effortless boating experience. With smart technology and real-time responsiveness, you will enjoy smoother, quieter navigation. It is the perfect solution for protected zones and harbors. Docking has never been easier, thanks to full 360° maneuverability, giving you total control in tight spaces.

Upgrade your next Iguana with the Hybrid option. Where innovation, sustainability, and performance come together for the ultimate boating experience.

BLUENAV, A FRENCH VISIONARY COMPANY

A shared vision drives us: shaping the future of mobility through cutting-edge technology. This spirit inspires both our companies to push the boundaries of marine innovation. At the heart of our efforts lies a deep passion, particularly in advancing sustainable navigation alongside BlueNav.

Together, we are charting a course toward a future for marine mobility. We extend our sincere gratitude to our supplier, BlueNav, for their shared vision and collaboration.

SUSTAINABLE BY BRAND

At Iguana Yachts, sustainability has always been at the heart of our innovation.

From the beginning, we have been committed to developing eco-friendly solutions redefining modern boating.

Our amphibious boats are designed to minimize environmental impact, eliminating the need for traditional harbor infrastructure, one of the most polluting aspects of the industry.

Beyond that, our unique design reduces water pollution, as our boats require no antifouling treatments, avoiding the release of toxic substances into marine ecosystems. Combined with our hybrid technology, we are building more responsible boats, with significantly lower CO₂ emissions than classic vessels.

Choosing an Iguana means choosing innovation, luxury, and a genuine commitment to protecting our oceans. Join us in shaping the future of sustainable yachting.

THE KING AND THE QUEEN OF THAILAND ABOARD AN IGUANA

In April, a sailing event took place in Thailand, the 36th Edition of the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta. One of Asia’s most prestigious yacht racing events traces its origins to a heartfelt tribute. In 1986, members of Thailand’s yachting community envisioned a special celebration for His Majesty the King’s 60th birthday, observed on December 5, 1987. Their discussions led to the creation of a Royal Regatta, hosted in the stunning Andaman Sea waters off Phuket.

Over the years, the event has grown significantly. Now a key feature of the Asian Yachting Circuit, it attracts over 90 boats and 2,000 sailors annually. Today, the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta stands as a symbol of excellence, tradition, and the enduring allure of sailing in the Andaman Sea.

THE IGUANA X100 WHITE, A ROYAL SHUTTLE

What made this year truly special?

Our X100 White proudly served as a royal shuttle, carrying the King and Queen of Thailand from the beach to the winner’s regatta! A moment of pride and honor as we contributed to this celebrated tradition, continuing the legacy of excellence and respect for Thailand’s maritime culture.

NICOLAS’ VISION FOR IGUANA YACHTS, A COMMUNITY OF AMPHIBIOUS BOATERS IN FLORIDA

This month, we had the pleasure of interviewing Nicolas Price. He is the driving force behind Iguana Yachts’ expansion in Florida and the Bahamas. In this interview, Nicolas shares his vision for building a community of Iguana owners, insights into the boat market, and the game-changing potential of Iguana Yachts for coastal adventurers everywhere.

Read the following interview to learn more about his job.

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOURSELF

“Before working at Iguana, I was involved in the family business in the medical field. Our company provides in-home care to people of all ages and needs, as well as transportation services to help them reach medical appointments or other destinations. We strive to offer the best possible care for every client.

In addition to this work, I also delivered boats from the Keys to Fort Lauderdale and Miami, and I started my own boat brokerage, selling boats from 25 feet up to 72 feet. The 72-footer was the largest sale I made over five years in the brokerage.

Eventually, I went back to school to study business management and accounting. After that, I returned to the family business, and now I am with Iguana.

I have been fortunate to be boating almost since I learned to walk. Boating has always been a major part of my life. When I was 11 or 12, I bought my first 16-foot flats boat, which confirmed my passion for it.”

“Ever since, I’ve spent every free moment on the water; whether fishing, diving, or just enjoying time with friends. I have had the chance to boat in the Bahamas, Mexico, and Italy in the Mediterranean as well.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IGUANA?

“I discovered Iguana on Instagram one evening and saw that there was now a boat capable of essentially crawling out of the water to access places that traditional boats couldn’t reach. That was my first introduction to Iguana, and from that moment, it became a top interest of mine. I believe it is truly positioned to be a disruptor in the traditional boating industry.”

“As time goes on, I think more people will realize that Iguana has a unique place, and is here to stay long-term. I thought it was a complete game-changer. I fell in love with it after seeing it in action via videos on Instagram and YouTube, and I remember thinking, “Wow, I need to see this in person and experience it myself”, which I have now had the chance to do. I feel lucky to be one of the few, who gets to experience Iguana firsthand and share it with people who have not yet realized they need it. “

“Iguana boats do raise some questions, like how they handle big seas or how the track system performs. But it can handle large waves,  like those we encounter in the straits to the Bahamas or the Florida Keys. And it is surprisingly user-friendly. Initially, I had some concerns because it is an intimidating product. But after about five minutes, most people feel confident driving it, doing beach landings, or going to any island they want.

My favorite model is the Iguana Knight, the RIB version. Not to say the others aren’t great, but there’s just something special about the Knight. I took delivery of the blue one, and I really appreciated the experience.”

Our layouts are very family-friendly, with plenty of seating that people genuinely enjoy. Indeed, it is an extremely comfortable boat for hosting people if you have kids. We focus more on the client’s experience than just the machine itself.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE FUTURE OF AMPHIBIOUS BOATS?

“I think one of the main challenges facing the boating industry in the coming years is the lack of space, which has now also become a legal issue. This means that people are increasingly limited to using only marinas or pre-existing docks. Without permission to develop new areas, people can not build additional docks or boat ramps.

I have had experiences myself where this became an issue, like in the Florida Keys.”

“When I went out to the sandbar on Memorial Day weekend. We ended up stuck on the sandbar for hours in the sun, and we got home very late. With an Iguana, I would not have to deal with situations like that. I plan to take clients out, show them boats stuck on the sandbar as I once was, and demonstrate how the Iguana can get them on and off the sandbar regardless of the tide. I think the Florida Keys is an ideal area for Iguana boats, both geographically and practically.”

HOW IS IT TO WORK FOR A FRENCH COMPANY?

“Working with a French brand in the U.S. is a unique experience, and I think the French bring a lot of valuable perspectives to the table. The U.S. team has always maintained open communication, and while there have been challenges over the last six months, I believe we have the right people in place to address them. Overall, it’s been a great experience.

Of course, working for a French company has its unique aspects, especially with the time difference. I sometimes need to wake up early, but that’s just part of the job. Honestly, I really enjoy working for a French company here in the U.S.”

Iguana really helps reduce a lot of stress for boaters, and it just needs more exposure. I believe the more visibility we get, the more successful we’ll be, of course.

A NEW OFFICE IN FLORIDA, A NEW STRATEGY?

“Right now, I am the head of the Florida and Bahamas office. My daily tasks include following up with incoming leads, managing client relations, and assisting clients who may need help with technical issues. For example, if someone needs a new part or requires a technician to explain a system they don’t fully understand, I connect them with the right person to get answers quickly and efficiently.

We have a growth and long-term strategy.”

“The Florida office is fully open for business, and we’ve already had a good number of leads and sea trials with excellent feedback. My main mission is to encourage as many people as possible to adopt the Iguana product, and from there, to build a community around it. The boating culture here is very fishing-focused and family-oriented, and other manufacturers have adapted their approach to fit that. I think this makes sense, so that’s part of my own strategy as well.

I aim to create a community of Iguana owners by hosting events and gatherings where they can connect. I want to keep them informed about new and improved models and provide opportunities for them to experience the latest innovations firsthand. For Florida and the Bahamas.”

“My goal is to get as many Iguanas out there as possible, helping people rediscover boating.

The Bahamian islands and popular spots like the sandbars present unique challenges. People often forget about the tides and end up stuck at low tide, waiting for the next high tide.

With an Iguana, they would not have to worry about that, and I believe it’s a game-changer for the region.”
