Life with an Iguana – Quiet Picnics

An owner in the Caribbean provides a glimpse into how he uses his Iguana…

The first time I saw the Iguana I knew it was the boat for us. It gives us access to so many beaches that would normally be off limits.

The sun is hot and the wind provides a welcome cool breeze. It is also creating some heavy surf, but we don’t need to change our plans.

We board the Iguana riding the seas smoothly and dry heading to the beach.

When we turn into our favourite cove, the waves are higher. There is a family from a nearby yachts and 3 crew circling with a beach lander, looking for the best route in but they will not be able to get on the beach today, back to the yacht for them and the beach is ours.

Part of me loves the Iguana for this type of situation, straight out of the water onto the shore where my family can disembark easily and safely.

After an hour of peace and tranquillity, alone on our favourite beach, the kids decide enough is enough and crank up the Iguana sound system. That’s our cue to have lunch. The crew dresses the table and remove the picnic from the fridge and in seconds everyone is comfortable on board. My eldest quickly gets changed in the cabin while my wife and son shower sand off their legs on the beach platform and we all sit down for lunch. Sand free and dry with the best view.

We enjoy lunch catching up on each other’s busy lives like we’re the only people in the world. This is why it was love at first site for me and the Iguana. Because she gives me and the family hours of entertainment and manages to fulfil everyone’s needs!

Life with an Iguana – Evening Cruises

A Client in the US tells us how his Iguana makes the perfect location for an after-dinner cruise…

I’ve always lived by the sea. My fondest memories are of my sister and I playing with friends in the sand or on dad’s boat long into the summer evenings.

40 years later and not much has changed except we grew up and I finally bought a boat of my own, so now we can play on it any time we like!

This week we have friends over for dinner. We’re not the only couple at the table who own a boat – living near the beach usually means you have a love of the water. But we are the only couple who has their boat parked at their door.

We decide to head out for a post-dinner sunset cruise. It’s easy for everyone to board from our drive – even those who have enjoyed the wine! It’s safe and steady so I don’t need to worry about anyone slipping or falling between the dock and boat like you would a traditional boat.

“We’re not the only couple at the table who own a boat. But we are the only ones who have it parked at their door”

Once aboard there is plenty of room for all 8 of us and we’re in the water within minutes. I realise my wife had this planned as she pulls a cooled bottle of Champagne from the fridge (water for me!) and glasses from the under-seat storage.

We cruise along the coastline enjoying the city lights as the sun sets slowly returning to our beach just as darkness falls. The Iguana’s integrated lights shine the path back to the house and guests disembark as easily as they boarded.

We kiss our goodbyes at the end of a memorable evening and all our guests appreciate how easy it was for us to set sail tonight. Something a normal boat simply couldn’t have given us.

The Iguana is so much fun, it makes me feel like a kid again, only now it’s my wife calling me to come home, not my mother!

Life With An Iguana – Ultimate Escapism

A Client in France tells us how he uses the Iguana to escape…

When I showed my friends photos of the Iguana I had ordered they had two reactions. Laughter or sheer puzzlement. What will you do with it? Why on earth would you need that thing? It’s just a toy for billionaires, what are you thinking?! (My friends don’t hold back their criticism on anything). But when I told them I can park it at home, use it alone, enjoy the ocean whenever I want, stop paying crazy marina charges. They understood my thought process. Little did I know just how much it would change my life.

It’s Friday evening when I leave the office to head for the coast, it’s been a tough week. I can’t stop thinking about it the whole journey home, and long into Friday night.

I wake up on Saturday and still can’t shift thoughts of ongoing projects in the office. It’s cloudy and likely to rain this afternoon but I decide to jump on the Iguana and clear my head with some much needed fresh air.

Within minutes I’m in the boat and on the water hitting 40 mph leaving the shore behind me. The wind in my face blasts away all thoughts of work and I drop down to cruise at 25 mph.

When I can no longer see the land I stop and drop anchor, completely alone. This afternoon’s poor weather forecast has kept traditional boaters at home so I enjoy the complete silence, not another boat as far as I can see.

I dig out my secret supply of chocolate biscuits from the bottom of the storage box, pull my flask of coffee from the cup holder and open my book. A packet of biscuits and 15 minutes later I am completely relaxed. The clouds begin to darken earlier than the forecast predicted so I pack up and head home enjoying the tranquillity of a clear head and what feels like my own ocean.

People tell me exercise and healthy eating will help me cope better with the stress. I think you’ve never tried an Iguana. I like the biscuits too much and I can escape the entire world in minutes on my boat.

Life With An Iguana – Lunch in the Solent

A Client in the UK tells how easy it is to enjoy your boat.

We wake up to a glorious day, it seems summer has arrived at last so we decide to head over to our favourite beach restaurant on the Isle of Wight.

Getting the children ready for a trip on the Iguana is no more difficult than if we were heading in the car. Shoes on and swimming costumes packed we board the boat in our own drive. The children easily get on board themselves followed by my wife and within minutes we’re heading to the beach and in the water hassle free.

As we arrive at the restaurant, available spaces to anchor are filling up, people are clambering out of soggy tenders and the beautifully dressed ladies cast scathing looks at their husbands as they try to get as close to the beach as possible.

We usually avoid this place in the summer for just this reason. But the Iguana Land Drive can handle the notorious choppy surf and we park easily at the edge of the water. Dismounting with dry feet onto the soft sand and bagging the last sea front table.

En route home, the children decide they want to swim so we headed over to Scratchell’ss Bay, a quiet isolated beach, and they enjoy few minutes in the sea before they give in to the cold waters. Back on board the children use the cabin to change from their wet suits into dry clothes and we head home.

We previously owned a boat that we never used. My wife and I found the marina too stressful for different reasons. I would hate the parking and movement restrictions while she hated the physical act of getting the kids on board. Now boating is completely stress-free. We all love every minute of it.

Life With an Iguana Amphibious Boat – Family Time

Many say why would I need an Iguana. Here we provide a glimpse into what life as an Iguana owner is like… The kids wake up late, but I don’t need to stress. I take my coffee out onto the deck and enjoy the quiet of the beach before the bustle of tourism arrives. Just me, a dog walker and a couple of kite surfers enjoying the break a little way out.

The kids are finally ready at 10:00 and we board the Iguana in the garage. All our kit is still on board from last week so no need to pack anything. Even the fridge is still stocked with cool water and soft drinks. At 10:01 we’re already on the move across the beach and in the water by 10:03.

We head to a nearby reef, drop anchor and kit up for a spot of snorkelling. Back on board, we take a freshwater shower on the swim platform and lie out on the cushioned lounge seats to dry off.

The kids are teenagers now so I love these moments. It isn’t long before one of them wants to get home. That’s the value of the Iguana. We’ve only been out one hour but we’ve enjoyed every second. No exhaustive planning, frantic packing or stressful marinas. Just me and the kids enjoying a little time away from the world. Total freedom.
