COME ONBOARD WITH QUENTIN TREGUIER, ONE OF OUR ENGINEER

This month, we had the pleasure of interviewing Quentin at the shipyard. With a lifelong fascination for mechanics, electronics, and informatics—sparked in part by his admiration for Tony Stark (Iron Man)—he has become an expert in mechatronics. He shared the depth of his work at Iguana Yachts with humor and passion.

Read the following interview to learn more about his job.

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOURSELF

Since I was a kid, I have always tried my best to build things, from electronics to mechanics. I used to take apart my computers just to see how they worked. I know it is a bit geeky, but my career choice is inspired by Tony Stark (Iron Man). I love using technology and mechanics to create new things. I entered the field of engineering through my degree in Science and Technology of Sustainable Development and Industry in 2017. Working with materials suits me much better than theory, which is why I pursued a technical degree. After that, I completed a 2-year preparatory class at a top engineering and technology school. My goal was to specialize in mechatronics, which combines mechanics, electronics, and computing, like Tony Stark. Without a specific school in mind, I chose the School of Mechatronics in Caen, where I fell in love with the city. It is a lively, human-sized city, and the quality of life is great here. During my studies, I interned in the automotive sector at Flers.  Later in Toulouse, I developed sensors for the Safran Group and Airbus.”

“I then took the opportunity to work at Iguana, a company that aligns with my passion for boats, a passion sparked by my grandfather, who worked in shipbuilding. He even worked on constructing the liner Le France at the Atlantic shipyard.”

WHAT IS YOUR EXPERIENCE AT IGUANA YACHTS?

What I love about working at Iguana is the visibility of the entire process, from theory to the integration of each feature. There is particular satisfaction in assessing the feasibility of an option and witnessing its evolution once integrated into the amphibious boat.

This process is both rewarding and challenging, as it requires finding the most efficient way to integrate each option. The constant pursuit of perfection keeps me motivated.”

“A strong general understanding among the team is motivating, and I appreciate it. I also enjoy having my office centrally located within the shipyard, allowing me to see the boats as they move around the site—a connection I couldn’t experience from an enclosed office, distanced from both the product and production environment. Working for a large company does not appeal to me either, as I would likely work on a small part without seeing how it fits into the final product, which loses the tangible connection. Here, when I implement something, I can see it directly in future boats.”

I am truly driven by innovation, which is why I am at Iguana. There is no other company with a comparable product.

WHAT IS YOUR MISSIONS?

“I work with the design and production office, focusing on production issues and continuously helping to improve techniques. I am the go-to person when someone needs help resolving a technical problem. I’m also responsible for integrating customer-specific options, including large screens, hybrid systems, stabilizers, and more. The hybrid system has been the largest project I have worked on so far, requiring significant planning and careful integration due to its impact on other features.”

“I am also developing the customization side, especially in terms of option integration. I often lead small teams that work on options I’ve designed. It is very rewarding to collaborate directly with these teams and see them bring my work to life.

Additionally, I manage the creation of methodology guides, which provide precise measurements and help production teams work with greater independence.”

“I am also dedicated to optimization and cost reduction, continually exploring ways to integrate innovative technology into our operations. Each day brings new challenges, and it’s highly rewarding to develop and implement new options and processes.”

IGUANA BOAT, AN INNOVATIVE PRODUCT

“The product is remarkable—these machines are not only beautiful but also genuinely cutting-edge. We’ve successfully integrated a wide range of advanced technologies into a single vessel. If I could, I’d love to own an Iguana myself. On my first visit, I was truly impressed; seeing the extent of technology embedded in each model was astounding. The Bow Rider model is stunning and my favorite. Watching the transition seamlessly on land is amazing, showcasing an impressive level of technological innovation.”

ANNECDOTE

We had a sea trial, but we did not have a windshield. It was my first time piloting an Iguana, and unfortunately, it started raining. With the speed and the rain, it felt like we were in a hailstorm! We came back soaked, but we had a great and funny time with the team.”

I always advise doing what we are passionate about. It has been a huge source of motivation for me. Since work makes up about 70% of our lives, we should enjoy it! Every morning, I get up happy to head to work with a coffee in hand.
