MEET QUENTIN DUMAS, OUR PASSIONATE ASSEMBLER FITTER

It is with pleasure that we met Quentin this month at the factory, where he excels as an assembler-fitter. This meeting allowed us to understand better his professional career and the prevailing team spirit at Iguana. The assemblers-fitters are the core of our business because they have the competencies and the expertise needed to build our unique products. Their know-how is priceless to master this particular technology.

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOURSELF

My dad was a fisherman in Ouistreham. Actually, he always worked with his hands in the garage as much as in the house. Since I was a child, I watched him. Moreover, as the school did not suit me, I pursued a Professional Baccalaureate in carpentry and another one in house interior layout. In addition, these diplomas allowed me to learn how to renovate an entire building from floor to ceiling and to perform manual work.

Then, I became self-employed in carpentry in the building industry, handling everything related to the wall, floor, and ceiling. Indeed, for 3 years, I renovated houses and fitted kitchens. Afterward, when I decided to stop my company, for administrative reasons, I found Iguana’s job offer. Although I was not looking for a position in the maritime industry, it was a surprising coincidence. The nautical side also attracted me in relation to my father who worked in the same field.”

WHAT ARE YOUR MISSIONS AT IGUANA YACHTS?

“I have been at Iguana Yachts for 3 and a half years. When I arrived, I was an assembler fitter. In one year and a half, I was trained in various areas, tubes, assembly, heads, cabins, and carpentry. Since August 2024, I have become the technical leader after decking, acting as Laurent‘s substitute, the current leader. The objective is to create 2 sub-teams to have 2 production lines working simultaneously on 2 boats. Our sub-teams consist of 3 to 4 people to meet the deadlines.”

Obviously, we remain the same team, and depending on the workload we help each other on different tasks. For a year now, this system has been in place. We help each other a lot with the new model, the Iguana Bow Rider, launching this summer.”

PASSION FOR THE MANUAL WORK AND TEAM SPIRIT

What I really like is this manual side, we never do the same thing. Every day is different, thanks to customer customizations. As a technical leader, I am responsible for training new employees. I appreciate the training and managerial parts of my job. There is no preliminary training to build an Iguana because we are unique in the world. So, we need to take our time to pass down the knowledge to them. This aspect of my work is very fulfilling.

Additionally, we are a good team at Iguana Yachts, everyone gets along well and it is very motivating. Human relations and learning are tasks I enjoy because they are enriching. Moreover, the product is really impressive and amazing.”

It is a very impressive product. You do not see a boat with tracks anywhere!

BUSINESS LIFE

“A typical day at Iguana Yachts begins at 7 am. We meet at the shipyard, salute each other, and we hold a check-in on the progress of the boats. Then, I redistribute the tasks within my team. Once everyone is working with the right pieces and tools, I get down to my work. I am still here as a support. In case of a problem, I forward the information to the site manager. My challenge is to find enough time to manage and work on my tasks. Being a manager requires a lot of organization and coordination skills.”

It makes my day intense and interesting. As one of the most experienced employees, I have some complex missions. I enjoy this training aspect and being able to organize myself as I wish. It reminds me of my time as a self-employed.

With the team we became friends. After COVID-19, they put volleyball back in place at lunch. So, we put tape on the ground with pallets, straps, and construction nets. We used to play volleyball for half an hour during the lunch break.”

The team is very nice, and everyone from office positions to production workers gets along well.

From the left to the right, Alexandre Von Barissich, Quentin Dumas, David Gonclaves and Elodie Thierry.

A NEW IGUANA DELIVERY IN THE BAHAMAS

Trying an Iguana Yacht is adopting it! One of our clients in the Bahamas succumbed to it. After 3 months of hard work at the shipyard, the customer received it. An Iguana delivery is always an exciting moment! The whole work of our passionate workers is delivered by one or two of our representatives to the final owner. And you may also know this boat. You liked it a lot in the previous newsletter, it is the Blue Iguana Knight!

We take you with us for the stages of an Iguana delivery!

ARRIVAL OF THE BOAT IN MIAMI FROM THE SHIPYARD

Once the yacht was finished, it left the shipyard on a flattruck. Because we are selling our yachts on the international market, we are used to sending them abroad. To do so, we sent the boat to Le Havre International Harbor.

From there the amphibious yacht did a 3-weeks trip to Miami. Then, an Iguana team on site was supervising the unloading with the customer. For the transportation, the Iguana Knight was on a 40 ft flat rack. At the marina, we launched the boat with a travel lift.

INSPECTION OF THE BOAT WITH THE IGUANA TEAM

When the boat arrived, our team did a complete inspection of it. Plus, as it is a RIB boat, we needed to blow up the tubes and fill it up with fuel.

Afterward, we did a briefing to explain the boat operation. We explained not only the tracks and the Iguana Mobility System but also the added equipment. That was quite quick, as our customer’s captain had come to our shipyard in Caen.

The next phase was the sea trials. We did speed, mechanic, and landing tests.

LAST STEP, CROSSING FROM MIAMI TO NASSAU

Once the papers are signed, the guarantee begins! Then, the captain sailed back to Nassau in the Bahamas, the final destination, from Florida. Everything went smoothly during the 1-day travel of the Iguana, it is reliable. That is why we are proud of our team’s meticulous work!

We were able to shoot the Iguana in Miami & in the Bahamas. Here are some pictures.
